About Me
My name is Harrison Epstein, I was the Nights/Weekends Editor and education reporter for the Ogden Standard-Examiner and Provo Daily Herald after graduating from Weber State University. I later became the Community Editor of the Daily Herald from 2021 through 2023.
I was the recipient of the 2017 Utah Press Association third-place award for best sports column, the 2018 Society of Professional Journalists Region 9 first-place award for best news story, 2019 Wyoming Press Association second-place award for best sports feature, 2020 National Newspaper Association second-place best sports photo, 2020 Wyoming Press Association first-place award for sports news, the 2021 Utah Press Association first-place award for front page design, the 2022 Utah Press Association first-place award for feature reporting and the 2022 Utah Press Association first-place award for news photography.
Work Experience
The Signpost
2016 – 2019
I started at The Signpost, Weber State University's student newspaper, as a college freshman in 2016 as a sports reporter. From then on I rose to eventually become Editor-in-Chief during my senior year. While with The Signpost, I was a voting delegate at the 2018 National SPJ Conference and a presenting speaker at the 2018 College Media Alliance conference.
Douglas Budget
June 2019 – December 2019
After graduating from WSU I became the sports reporter for the Douglas Budget and Glenrock Independent. While there I was the lone sports journalist covering three towns; Douglas, Glenrock and Wright. I was responsible for the section's writing, photography and page design.
Standard-Examiner/Daily Herald
December 2019 – August 2023
I joined the Standard-Examiner newsroom in December and began working as a designer and copy editor for both the Standard and the Provo Daily Herald. Starting in June 2021, I became the Nights/Weekends Editor and education reporter for the Standard-Examiner. In September 2021 I was promoted and became the Editor of the Daily Herald.
